Preparing the trail

Walk the old Sherpa trails from Lukla through Namche Bazaar to the foot of the world's highest mountain.
$1,199 / person
The classic walk to the foot of Sagarmatha, on trails worn smooth by Sherpa traders and Tibetan pilgrims long before the first expeditions came. We move slowly, sleep two nights in Namche to acclimatise, take the side trail to Khumjung, and reach base camp on day eleven.
A short half-day along the Dudh Kosi to settle in.
The long climb into the Khumbu through pine and rhododendron.
A morning walk to the Everest View Hotel; afternoon in the bazaar.
Down to the Imja Khola, then up to the great monastery.
Above the tree line, into the high pastures.
An optional walk up Nangkartshang for a long view of Makalu.
Past the memorials at Thukla pass.
The day. Long, slow, unforgettable.
First light on Everest from 5,545 m, then a long descent.
A long walk back through Tengboche.
The last full day on the trail.
Hot shower. Better dinner.
